Reliable RT-PCR Testing

The Covid-19 crisis has underlined the need for easily accessible, prompt, and flawless RT-PCR testing to screen for the disease. Agam Diagnostics is one of the leading testing centres accredited by the ICMR, Government of India. Our laboratory is powered by state-of-the-art diagnostic technology and astute medical acumen to diagnose Covid-19.

Regulatory authorities like the FOA (Food & Agricultural Organisation) and FDA consider RT-PCR testing as one of the most accurate methods to diagnose Covid-19 infection.

At Agam, all Covid-19 RT-PCR tests are conducted by our highly trained phlebotomists under extremely safe and hygienic conditions. Sample collections are done only under a doctor's prescription. In addition to RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction) test, rapid antigen tests can also be used to detect Covid-19.

Procedure for RT-PCR Test

Our phlebotomists diligently follow all the safety protocols set by the World Health Organization for conducting RT-PCR tests. We undertake all precautionary measures to ensure the safety of our staff and the patients. We conduct the RT-PCR tests in three steps:
STEP
1

Sample Collection

A swab is used to collect respiratory material from the nose. We use both nasal swabs and nasopharyngeal swabs to collect samples. After collection, the swab is safely sealed in a tube and sent to our laboratory for testing.

STEP
2

Extraction

Our lab technologists extract and isolate genetic material, including that of other viruses that maybe present in the sample.

STEP
3

PCR Testing

In the final PCR step, we use special chemicals and a thermal cycler to make millions of copies of the SARS-CoV-2 virus's genetic material. If the sample contains the virus, the device alerts our technologists, who will also use software to interpret the result.

Interpreting the RT-PCR Test Report
There are multiple methods to test for Covid-19. The duration of each test is different, ranging from a few hours to a few days. You can collect the test report directly from our lab or generate it online. Once you have your report, we advise you to consult with your referring doctor.
Positive Result
A positive RT-PCR test result indicates an infection of SARS-CoV-2. You could be symptomatic or asymptomatic. Either way, we strongly advise you to immediately consult your healthcare provider and follow their instructions. You should also isolate yourself from others until you are completely cured of the infection.
Negative Result
A negative RT-PCR test result indicates that you probably did not have the infection when the sample was collected from you. However, a negative test result does not eliminate the possibility of a Covid-19 infection.
It is possible that the test may not have detected the virus. This may happen if you have recently become infected but don't show any symptoms or if you've had COVID-19 for more than a week before testing. A negative result also does not indicate that you are safe from the virus. You may be exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus after the test and spread the infection to others.
Who Should Get Tested For Covid-19?
Your healthcare provider will recommend an RT-PCR test if you exhibit any of the following symptoms:
High body temperature
Chills
General fatigue
Cough
Loss of taste and smell
Difficulty in breathing
Shortness of breath
Severe body pain
Headache
Nausea and vomiting
Chest and nose congestion
Sore throat
Diarrhoea
Please note that not everyone with Covid-19 infection develops symptoms. Moreover, those who are symptomatic may not exhibit all of the symptoms mentioned in the list. Regardless of whether you are vaccinated or not, please consult your doctor immediately if you feel unwell during the pandemic.
Precautions to be followed
Wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth
Sanitize your hands
Maintain social distancing
Keep Yourself Safe & Well-Informed
